Yeah. Not going to use any of the Lawry’s seasoned salt I found in the back of the pantry. For the record, I've been in this house since 2009, which means this thing moved with me.

It’s not expired, it’s past its “best before” date. Seasoning salt doesn’t expire.

Also, 2008 is nothing compared to this bottle of Bromo Seltzer I found at my Grandma’s:

I’ll give you a Dollar to shake that on a Hot Dog and eat it.

I was but a wee baby when that expired.

I was out of chocolate milk mix and wanted chocolate milk so I grabbed a thing of cocoa powder from the pantry. Turned out that shit was in there since 2009, my family moved into my house a year after that. It wouldn’t even dissolve, it just floated at the top of the glass like nothing and tasted nasty.

It was pretty much a solid mass. No shaking it without a hammer.

Yeah the FDA requires everything food-related have a best-if-used-by date. Typically arbitrary.

I’m guessing salt will be fine since it was probably under the ground for millions of years before it was put in your container ;)

In my defense, it was cloves and so not something I’d ever actually eat...just for simmering at the holidays to make the house smell good.

9th grade for me. You win! The pantry looks better now. Nothing more than 4 years old in there!

A coworker found this in the fridge at work. Anyone up for some 4.5 year old mayonaise?

It stayed in the fridge after we moved offices. I bet it is still there.

Seasonings? Don’t worry about it. There’s really nothing to spoil. The worst thing that will happen is that they will absorb a bit of moisture and clump; usually that happens on the cheap stuff with their low-quality containers. I bought too many bottles at Big Lots when they were selling for $0.48/each and have put but a small dent in the collection.

Two things I noticed whilst visiting the parental units a while back. One was a bottle of Syrup of Ipecac that they’ve had since the late ‘60s. I feared that bottle then, and I’m even more fearful of it today. The other item was a bottle of 3-in-1 oil from about the same time. I’m pretty sure that it’s still usable, but better lubricants have been developed over the last half century and thus it sits on the shelf next to a bunch of grandpa’s old tools.

Hell No! I poured that shit down the drain after the first sip. I honestly thought it was a fluke at first.

Coincidentally I was around for two months at that point.
